Comprehensive Treatment Facility Admission Process

Most Common Reasons for Placement:

Students are placed at NW BOCES most often for severe emotional disturbances, aggressive/violent behaviors, family/school/community problems, abuse; less intense treatment services have been unsuccessful.

Admission Criteria:

  • Youth who are ages 5–14, Grades K–8
  • Youth who are emotionally disturbed and who are diagnosed to have a serious mental disorder, as defined by DSM-IV
  • Less intensive treatment services have been tried and have not met the youth's needs
  • Symptoms of the youth's emotional disturbance require 24-hour supervision and treatment
  • The prognosis for treatment at this level of care can reasonably be expected to improve the youth's condition or prevent further regression
  • Youth with special education or general education needs
  • Youth with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
  • Youth with related services needs such as occupational, physical, speech, counseling, and/or medical therapy
  • Youth working at elementary and middle school grade levels
  • Child in need of supervision, pre-delinquent, & delinquent

Placements:

All student placements occur through the student’s local school district or through a court order for a child in need of services. NW BOCES Treatment Team reviews placement inquiries to select students whose needs fit the services provided by our program.

Specific Disorders of Youth Currently Served Are:

ADD/ADHD; impulsivity; anxiety disorders; obsessive compulsive disorder; oppositional defiant disorder; victims of abuse/neglect; behavioral & emotional problems; post-traumatic stress disorder; reactive attachment; traumatic brain injury; various mental health needs; bipolar; mood disorders; personality disorders; aggression; low self-esteem; poor social skills; excessive fear; anger; mistrust; confusion.
