About the NW BOCES Educational and Residential Program
The NW BOCES Educational and Residential Program is designed specifically for emotionally disturbed and behaviorally disordered children ages 5 to 14, serving students in grades K–8. Our program creates a structured, supportive environment where children can receive the specialized care and instruction they need to thrive. By addressing both educational and emotional needs, we provide a comprehensive foundation for each child’s growth and development.
Individualized Academic Instruction
Academic instruction at NW BOCES includes both special and regular academic options, ensuring that each student receives a personalized approach suited to their abilities and goals. In addition to traditional academics, our curriculum incorporates social skills and life skills training to help students develop positive relationships, effective communication, and practical daily living abilities. Our dedicated staff support children in building these essential skills, fostering independence and confidence.
Comprehensive Behavioral and Therapeutic Support
Behavioral management is a cornerstone of our program, and we offer a variety of therapeutic services to support students’ emotional well-being. These include group, individual, and family therapy, as well as psychiatric consultations and dietary services. Our highly trained team utilizes positive behavior interventions, monitors progress, and adjusts strategies to best meet the needs of each child.
Creative and Holistic Therapy Options
Therapeutic offerings are diverse and creative, incorporating group social skills training, individual counseling, and psychotherapy using neuropsychiatric and cognitive-behavioral methods. We also integrate music, art, recreational, and play therapy, along with unique opportunities for pet, equine, and animal-assisted therapy. These approaches foster emotional healing, self-expression, and resilience in our students.
Family Involvement and Community Integration
We believe in the importance of family involvement and community integration as critical components of successful treatment. Families are encouraged to participate in their child’s program, and students have opportunities to engage in social and leisure activities both on campus and within the local community. Residential living and training prepare students for successful transitions back to their homes, school districts, and broader communities.
Serving Youth Across Wyoming
NW BOCES is proud to serve youth from across the state of Wyoming, with admissions resulting from school district referrals or Court-Ordered Medical Placements (COMPS). Our facility provides twenty-four-hour supervision, health and medication management, physical education, adapted physical education, recreational therapy, transition planning, and transportation services. Through comprehensive care and a nurturing environment, we strive to help every student reach their highest potential.
